Special Services Aide
Overview: The Special Services Aide will support the department in carrying out responsibilities related to servicing students with special education needs.

Calendar: 184 Teacher Attendance Days, 7:45am - 3:45pm
Qualifications: Education and experience equivalent to high school graduation
Preferable experience in working with children/adolescents with special needs
Illinois Paraprofessional license required
Bilingual (Russian/Ukrainian) Preferred
Professional/Personal Characteristics:
- Previous experience in an educational setting preferred
- Excellent organizational skills and time management skills
- Ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently under varying deadlines
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to identify sensitive information and maintain confidentiality
- Proficient with Google G-Suite, office and phone equipment
Job Responsibilities:
1:1 Teacher Assistant for Students:
- Escort student to and from classes, into and out of the building to transportation
- Assist student using wheelchair lifts, ramps and elevators throughout the building
- Assist student with physical transfer from wheelchair to student desk using a gait belt
- Assist student with changing clothes and/or provide assistance with bathrooming needs
- Make enlarged copies of assignments/texts/notes/assessments
- Take notes during class
- Help student organize work, write down homework assignments, manage and carry materials and supplies
- Help student complete work during resource periods
- Communicate with student’s case manager, nurse, teachers and parents about progress or challenges
- Create audio versions or provide assistance in creating other adapted formats of tests for student
- Read texts/tests to student in an alternate environment
- Act as a scribe during testing situations; receiving answers verbally from student and marking the answers
- Help student manage technology and accommodations within the classroom
General Classroom Teacher Assistant:
- Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers in order to coordinate instructional efforts
- Assist in preparation of lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, and demonstrations
- Present subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers, using lectures, discussions, or supervised role-playing methods
- Tutor and assist students individually or in small groups in order to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers
- Enforce administration policies and rules governing students
- Assist teacher in grading homework and tests, computing and recording results
- Observe students' performance, and record relevant data to assess progress
- Implement behavioral intervention plans with case manager supervision and/or collect data on student progress towards IEP goals
- Operate and maintain audiovisual equipment for recordings for students
